May 2017, Dr Liu produced a short film based upon her life history project of Chinese immigrants in London. ‘British or Chinese: Stories of Migration, Family and Identity’
SOAS China Institute celebrated the School’s Centenary with special events in the UK and China, including an exhibition on Chinese migration and a symposium in China based on research by Dr Jieyu Liu.
This exhibition at the China Exchange in London builds upon the interviews with people of Chinese ethnic origin in the UK and documents their stories in migration, family and identity making.
The five-year project will provide the first comprehensive study of practices of intimacy in Chinese families, their intertwining with gender and intergenerational dynamics, and interrelations with local and global change.
The Intimacy project, led by the Deputy Director of the SOAS China Institute, featured in its annual review, which recalled successes in teaching, research, collaboration, training and events throughout 2014 to 2015.
